About Us

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year at Harvest Hills Elementary!

We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure all children can achieve their highest potential. In order to ensure success at school, we know our children need support from both the home and school. A strong partnership with you will make an incredible difference in your child’s education. As partners, we will share the responsibility for our children’s success, and I want you to know that we are committed to our responsibilities. As a lifelong learner and educator, I am dedicated to developing a love of learning and maximizing the growth of all of our students.

This year marks the third year that Harvest Hills Elementary has been open. Our building is ready to welcome approximately 450 students. This year, classrooms consist of a morning and afternoon 3-year-old program, morning and afternoon 4-year-old program, four Kindergarten classes, three First through 3rd Grade classes, four Fourth Grade classes, and three 5th Grade classes.

Our staff consists of 25 veteran teachers from Gretna Public Schools and 9 new hires to the district. We are excited to welcome them into our school. Our support staff consists of 18 paraprofessionals, 3 kitchen staff, office and custodian staff members, and many other positions that make each day successful for students and families.

The 2023-2024 school year marks the beginning of a new elementary mascot, the Guardians, which will be the mascot for all (and future) elementary schools within the Gretna Public School District.  We understand the long-standing and very proud tradition of the Dragons mascot and its importance to Gretna. As we open Gretna East High School and welcome the Griffins to the GPS family, we recognize that some elementary schools will send students to both Gretna High School (the Dragons) and Gretna East High School (the Griffins).  This prevented the name of the mascot at the elementary level from being either the Dragons or the Griffins, however, this created a unique opportunity for all elementary students to be unified during their educational journey in Gretna under the common mascot of the Guardians.  We know that any great school system starts with a strong foundation and feel that our Gretna Guardians will be the foundation for success and pride within Gretna Public Schools.

We look forward to partnering with you to provide enriching educational experiences for your student(s). We believe that collaboration between parents and educators is crucial for the overall development and success of our students.  Our staff is dedicated to fostering a nurturing environment that empowers our students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We invite you to actively participate in parent-teacher meetings, school events, and volunteer opportunities to strengthen the bond between home and school.

If, at any time, you have questions or concerns, please call the school at 402-332-5957 or email me ([email protected]). Our priority is always to work with you as a team to not only keep our students safe, but also learning.

A Message from our School Counselor...

Harvest Hills Families,

As a school counselor part of my job is to help families who may need some extra supports. Sometimes these supports are in the form of finding resources, sometimes they are temporary and sometimes they are long term. Whatever the case may be, I am here to help in any way I can to decrease stress and worry for you.
If at any time your family requires some extra support, please do not hesitate to fill out this CONFIDENTIAL form so I know how to help and what resources to gather for you.

Sincerely, Ashley Hergott
